Benjamin Dakota Rogers
Pushing the boundaries of traditional folk he is a multi- instrumentalist, singer songwriter and a composer. Combining fiddle, guitar and mandolin with his contemporary lyrics and unique voice he is creating music that draws you in with stories and poetry delivered with warmth and passion.
Attending Orangeville Fiddle and Step Dance camp for five years offered the opportunity to learn from some of Canada’s finest fiddle instructors. Three years at Goderich Celtic College proved to be an incredible experience to play and learn from musicians from around the world.
Benjamin has a passion for folk music. At the age of eleven Benjamin began playing fiddle at many local farmers markets. He has brought his love of music to audiences of all ages with his musicality and highly energetic performance. Benjamin ‘s fiddle technique has developed from the East Coast and Old Time but is transformed into his own style. His fiddle work has been described as hard driving, powerful folk with a contemporary edge. His lyrics speak of an old soul.
In 2014 Benjamin was featured as one of the Youth Discoveries winners at the prestigious Summerfolk Music Festival in Owen Sound as well as a participant in the youth program at Folk Music Conference in Toronto where he was awarded the Taylor Mitchell Bursary.
In 2014 Benjamin’s EP titled Wayfarer was nominated for Young Performer of the year for the Canadian Folk Music Awards. The album is a blend of driving fiddle and warm lyrical songs. From this album his song Move Ben Move won second place in the International Songwriting Competition and Pendulum won third place in the Indie International Songwriting Competition.
Benjamin’s was excited to learn his second CD “Strong Mans Address to the Circus Crowd” was also nominated for a CFMA for Young Performer of the Year in 2015. From that album his song Beautiful Mess received an Honorable Mention in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition.
Introducing his music to the Hamilton Music Awards gained three nominations for both Wayfarer and Strong Man’s Address to the Circus Crowd.
Benjamin was excited to release his third album titled Whisky and Pine, in June of 2016. Eleven original songs delivered with reflective emotion and warm harmonies.
