Sharp DogsSharp DogsBlues Jazz Americana Contact: Thom Adkins
In Sharp Dogs, Bob Boisclair & Thom Adkins offer an uncommon experience. The very musical and tasteful style of Bob’s lead guitar coupled with Thom’s distinctive vocal interpretations and finger-style rhythm guitar create a unique mix. Communicating their passion to the audience is what they do best. Sharp Dogs is two musicians at the top of their game playing the music they love.
Born in Montreal and raised in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, Bob’s mother played piano and organ and sang opera, R&B, and Elvis tunes while his pitch-perfect dad whistled classical music. At 4, Bob began learning classical music and playing organ; at 7, he began vocal training and choir; and at 12, discovered blues guitar watching Son House.
Bob has played guitar and sung professionally all over Eastern Canada and the USA in various pop, rock and country bands during the ’70’s, ’80’s and ’90’s. Bob’s recorded with several artists including J. D. Gordon, James Thomas and Gambler’s Cross, and Dan Walsh. Moving to Ontario in the late ’90’s, he began teaching music in Norfolk County. In 2008, his band, The Beez, won a province wide Battle-of-the Bands and opened for blues legend Johnny Winter in London, ON.
Thom has been singing and playing the guitar professionally since 1972. Raised on Swing, he took up a percussive finger style and developed his own take on the Jazz and Blues genre. Thom conveys strong melodic impressions influenced by Tom Waits, Steely Dan, Bruce Cockburn, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and traditional music.
Thom worked up an eclectic repertoire playing an array of house gigs, festivals, and special events in Canada and Europe. After spending 23 years in British Columbia, Thom is enjoying being back in the Southern Ontario music scene.
